In January 2008, the GJEF Junior Board of Directors was launched, lead by Miranda Irene Jones Roehrick and Katrina Lee Callas. We voted to make local homelessness the focus of our first project. During 2008-2009, we gave 80 Backpack Carekits filled with toiletries & personal items to residents of Homeward Bound of Marin’s New Beginnings Center, a shelter and job training program for homeless adults at Hamilton Field in Novato, California.

For our 2010 projects we raised $2,100 through a letter writing campaign and received a $500 grant from the Marin Charitable Association. With these funds we gave 100 School Backpack Kits to Hamilton School in Novato, and several farm animals to impoverished families globally through Heifer International. (Scroll down for that list)

On April 11, 2010 in our garage, we set up a backpack assembly line with school supplies. The picture to the right shows some of the Jr. Board members with backpacks full and ready for delivery!
